House of Independents posted a teaser photo on Instagram on Wednesday, Apr. 10. The post hinted at a summer reopening and said a "2.0" version of the Cookman Avenue venue was "now loading."
Elizabeth-based music event production company Concert Crave posted its own tease on Instagram hyping up the relaunch of House of Independents. A video showed a small peek at some of the renovations inside the concert hall.
House of Independents closed after a heavy rainstorm in the city on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. According to a Facebook post on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, nearby Wesley Lake overflowed, flooding the basement of Asbury Park Biergarten and House Of Independents. After the flooding, House of Independents moved many of its scheduled performances in the fall of 2023 to other venues in the area.
The concert hall said it suffered more than $500,000 in damages.
"We have been very proud to bring entertainment to the downtown of Asbury Park and be an integral part of this community," House of Independents said in its post about the flooding. "Unfortunately, we have decided to remain closed for the foreseeable future as we work through different options that will hopefully keep the space as an arts-driven venue."
The website for House of Independents called it the "most versatile" venue in Asbury Park.
"The House supports a wide spectrum of uses, with convertible attributes such as its retractable seating system and movable stages," the website said. "The stadium-style seats can be implemented for theatre productions, movie premieres, conferences, and more, or they can be hidden away to open floor space for events such as weddings, concerts, and fundraisers."
Concert Crave appears to be expanding its reach from organizing concerts to managing venues. In June 2023, the company purchased The Webster, a 1,200-seat theater in Hartford, Connecticut, originally built in 1937.
The roster for Concert Crave includes many hip-hop artists like 21 Savage, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Cam'ron, DaBaby, NBA YoungBoy, Polo G, PnB Rock, Rod Wave, and 6ix9ine.
